STRAIGHT BAT: Lincoln batsman Hugh Patterson keeps his
eye on the ball.
A BATTING collapse by Lincoln
at home undermined a promising
start as they went down to
Weedons, who reclaimed the
Steve Ryan Cup, in Ellesmere/
Malvern/Banks Peninsula senior
one-day cricket on Saturday.
Lincoln batted first and
Weedons opening bowlers Fraser
Austin and Sam Fleming restric-
ted them to 22 runs off their first
10 overs. Dalton Lange and Rich-
ard Clark fought back to put on
over 100 in a great partnership to
set them up for a total well over
200, at 146-1 with 15 overs
But Weedons Dan Fleming
removed Clark for 63 and Paul
Rugg took the wicket of Lange for
48 and the wickets started to
tumble. Lincoln lost nine for 22
runs and they were bowled out
In reply Josh and James Wat-
son got Weedons off to a solid
start, and English import Ben
Moseley (33no), Rugg (44) and
Shannon Dunnett got them home
with seven wickets to spare.
South Malvern had a good vic-
tory over Leeston/Southbridge at
Leeston. They scored 179-9, with
captain Patrick Reardon 51 not
out. In reply the hosts fell just
nine runs short, with Sam
Chamberlain anchoring the
innings with 73. Mike Pauling
took three key wickets for 31
At Diamond Harbour the home
side dominated the struggling
Dunsandel side by seven wickets
with Sam Swartz picking up
