Makethat gift for your woman special
Something for her: When it comes to your partner, make an effort to find presents she will enjoy
and remember that quality is better than quantity.
Christmas Shopping -- avoiding the mistakes
that men make
We all know how disappointing it is to get
a present that is just wrong -- wrong size,
wrong type, wrong colour or just something
we simply have no interest in at all. It is a bit
like giving a heavy metal CD to someone
whose passion is for classical piano adagios.
You can avoid giving that special lady the
wrong thing by observing the following
If you don't already know, check out her size
first when buying lingerie or jewellery. Do not
over-compensate and buy too big. Receiving a
tent instead of a petite chemise on Christmas
Day is not going to make her feel special.
If you want to buy lingerie, don't get cheap
and nasty. Buy the very best you can afford
and avoid anything tacky.
Don't buy household items as gifts. You may
think you are being practical but there are
sure to be a lot of things she would put ahead
of a food processor or set of kitchen knives. It's
all right to buy something if she's specifically
asked for it, but she's probably not expecting
she's going to receive only that. Add
something that is just for her.
A department store may seem efficient but it
doesn't show much effort; nor does buying
the same gift every Christmas, does it? Just
alternating between brands of perfume isn't
good enough either. Make an effort to find
presents she will enjoy and that she has not
seen on a supermarket shelf while out
If there is something specific she wants, you
will get plenty of hints well in advance. Failure
to pick-up on any of these may just reveal
what an insensitive clot you are. If you do get
the hint accept it quietly and make a mental
note. Do not attempt to verify it. If she wanted
to spell it out to you, she wouldn't have used
anything as subtle as a hint.
Take the greatest care when buying clothes.
Are you really up to date with the latest
fashion trends for women? Think back to the
last time you went clothes shopping with her.
You thought most of what she tried on looked
perfectly all right, but she didn't buy any of it.
This alone should tell you that you may not be
qualified to buy her clothes.
Just because you like something, doesn't
always mean she will. Christmas is not the
time to give a loved one a book by your
favourite author in the hope she will come to
like it. Don't give writing paper to someone
who only ever emails, or gardening gloves to
someone who doesn't know a carrot from a
For wrappings, use plenty of bows and
ribbon and attractive Christmas paper.
When you give it, don't apologise first. Don't
have a guilt trip over its cost. Don't say that
the man in the shop thought you would like
Leave her in no doubt that you chose it
yourself and are giving it because you love
