MORE CHILDREN are now walking
or cycling to and from rural schools
in the Selwyn district, after a 40kmh
sign trial in local school zones.
Whether the signs stay depends on
a New Zealand Transport Agency
All but two of 225 motorists
surveyed after the Selwyn District
Council trial had cut their speeds,
while others said they had always
slowed down at schools.
Findings show 81 per cent drove
at 70kmh or less through the school
zone, even when children were
