displayed at the inaugural Castle Hill Village
Easter Art Exhibition.
The Castle Hill Village Easter Art Weekend is
a biennial event, which includes an official
opening, exhibition, art auction, a community
art house display, photo trail and ecological
tour. It also includes creative workshops for
children, a fancy dress fancy bike competition
and an Easter egg hunt.
The exhibition is located in the Castle Hill
Village Community Hall and will run over
Easter Sunday and Monday. A range of
mediums including sculpture, photography,
painting, books, music, textiles, ceramics,
jewellery and jade will be displayed. All works
at the exhibition are up for sale.
An opening will be held on Saturday, March
30, for guests only, including contributing
artists. Nibbles, beer and wine are provided.
There will be live music and an art auction,
with proceeds being donated to the Castle Hill
Village Mountain Bike Club.
Prior to the main opening, there will be a
children's fancy dress fancy bike competition.

The exhibition then runs over Easter
Sunday and Monday, from 10am till 4pm.
During the exhibition, visitors will nominate a
piece of art for the People's Choice Award and
the winner will be announced at the end of

Gondola on the go again
Aerial experience: The re-opening of the
Christchurch Gondola offers a delightful
experience to tourists and locals alike.

For those of you who enjoy seeing things from
a different perspective -- and with a little
adrenaline rush thrown in -- the Christchurch
Gondola is worth a whirl.
You arrive at the base station not far from
the Lyttelton Tunnel entrance and sway gently
nearly a kilometre to the crater rim. As
Christchurch Gondola describes it on its
''The Port Hills, a collapsed crater rim of an
extinct volcano that exploded six million years
ago, shelters Lyttelton's sparkling harbour.
''To the west, the Southern Alps seem close
in the clear, pure air and to the east, the ocean
and the sky stretch as far as the eye can see.''
The Gondola has recently re-opened to
the public following the quakes. You can
enjoy a dramatic reconstruction of the
history of the Port Hills and Christchurch,
see life-size dioramas of the early voyagers,
and savour a snack at the refurbished Red
