Young swim star seeks support
One of New
making a splash
closer to home,
training base out
of Christchurch to
Aquatic Centre in
13, won seven
medals at the New Zealand junior swimming
championships in February -- two gold, three silver
and one bronze and was also a member of two
Canterbury record-breaking relay teams.
The youngster now makes the trip from Lincoln to
Rolleston for her daily two-and-a half hour sessions
in the pool, though still goes to town for the
Canterbury silver swim squad training once a
month at Jellie Park. Hannah's coach Ellie Sinclair
has also made the trip south, along with multiple
gold medallist Sophie Pascoe's coach Roly
Crichton. Both now coach at the Selwyn Aquatic
Centre, so Hannah has still been able to swim
under their tutelage.
Her goal is to swim at the Commonwealth Games
and Olympics for New Zealand. She is seeking a
local business to sponsor her to help meet the
costs associated with competitive swimming and
In a new take on brainless, vandals tore the hooks
off every door at Ellesmere College at the weekend
and dumped them at the administration building

A multi-purpose indoor sports and leisure centre at
West Melton is a step closer after Selwyn District
councillors voted unanimously to accept a staff
report last week. The report recommended a
steering group be set up to guide the proposed
development and that council information be
released to the West Melton community so ideas
and feedback can be sought.
Tai Tapu is the latest local community to join the
Envirotown Trust Responsible Business Award
scheme. The scheme now has five trophies on
offer with Tai Tapu joining Ellesmere, Lincoln,

player Eddie Giffney of Auckland is
excited to be coming to Lincoln.

Young Aucklander Eddie Giff-
ney is the 2013 South Pacific
and New Zealand champion
piano accordion player and will
headline the Canterbury Accor-
dion Association's grand concert.

Driver runs out of room

A YOUNG man escaped serious
injury when time ran out on his
passing lane while overtaking a
large truck and trailer unit and
he clipped a south-bound truck
on State Highway 1 near Dun-
sandel on Sunday.
The young driver was airlifted
by Westpac rescue helicopter to
Christchurch Hospital but his
injuries were reported as not
The accident happened about
2.30pm near Sheats Rd.
Five hours later, a car trav-
elled through a stop sign at the
Blakes and Shands roads inter-
section in Selwyn and struck
A 75-year-old woman was
taken to hospital after the
7.30pm incident but it is under-
stood her injuries were not
